“What was great about working with Beth was that she
made everybody feel their opinion was respected and
that they were an important part of the process. In the
end, we knew that the final name would be sensitive to
everyone’s concerns.”
Henry Popkin, President, Popkin Development

As an ambitious urban renewal
project to transform 1200 acres of
decaying, crime-ridden public housing
into a vibrant, mixed-use community,
The Seattle Housing Authority's
redevelopment plan for Holly Park
was politically contentious from the
start. Residents, who had worked
hard to clean up and police their
neighborhood, were adamant that the
old Holly Park name be retained.
Business interests demanded a clean
sweep with a totally new name.
Beth was sensitive to all these opinions as well as the need
to respect urban history and public process. Through
intensive meetings with a wide variety of stakeholders,
followed by council meetings and public testimony, Beth
was able to bring the groups together with a name that
represented both past and future. A political impasse was
avoided, proving that sometimes the best name is the one
that makes the most sense.
